24/7 GP access

If members can’t get an appointment with an NHS GP that suits working hours, or if members need a second opinion, they can try our virtual GP service from Health Hero where appointments can be booked 24/7.

Most appointments are available within 24 hours, there’s no time limit on consultations. The Health Hero GPs can video call or look at images, issue prescriptions for members to buy themselves, and even write private open referral letters if the GP feels a specialist referral is appropriate. An open referral can then be submitted as part of a diagnosis or treatment claim for AXA Health to assess if covered or not.

The Health Hero virtual GPs can’t do physical examinations, test or scans. Members can get advice on what to ask for, but will need to go back to their NHS GP for things like initial blood tests or diagnostic scans.

Physiotherapy sessions

MSK issues are one of the leading causes of sickness absence, and Equipsme plans all come with access to MSK specialists and physiotherapy sessions through AXA Health.

Members don’t always need a GP referral and can begin with an online or telephone assessment. If self-help solutions aren’t suitable and if the claim is eligible, AXA Health can then help find a recognised physiotherapist for hands-on treatment.

Diagnosis

With diagnosis as part of the plan, members have a fast track to help find out what’s wrong through AXA Health and their authorised network of specialists and hospitals.

If the claim is covered (i.e. not a pre-existing condition or otherwise excluded), members can see a consultant at a private hospital to help get the health tests, scans and answers they need, faster. That includes diagnosis for cases of suspected cancer up to the point that cancer is diagnosed.

Hospital Treatment

With treatment as part of the plan, members with eligible claims (i.e. not a pre-existing condition or otherwise excluded) are also covered for in-patient or day-patient treatment through AXA Health, including specialist consultations, surgery, hospital room charges, dressings and drugs.

Members also have access to the AXA Health approved network of hospitals and specialists, and they will settle bills that are covered directly. Our plans do not provide cover for the treatment of cancer, although we do include cover leading up to the diagnosis of cancer.

Health checks

Prevention is sometimes better than the cure, so all Equipsme members over 18 have access to discounts off a range of Thriva at-home health tests, depending on what level of plan they have.

Tests include things like cholesterol and blood sugar levels, thyroid, lung, liver and kidney function, heart health, and even male and female hormones. The kits are easy to use, sent and returned by ordinary post, and the confidential results delivered within a few days.

24/7 Nurse helpline

Provided by AXA Health

The nurse support line from AXA Health is there for members 24/7, and is also staffed by other health professionals (not all available 24/7) including counsellors, midwives and pharmacists.

It means members can get access to health information and support, including information on how to treat minor illnesses or ailments at home, when to escalate a health issue, and how to de-code medical jargon.

Cancer and heart support

Provided by AXA Health

If someone gets diagnosed with a heart condition or with cancer, Equipsme gives them access to dedicated cardiology and cancer support lines through AXA Health.

It can be a worrying time, and having an expert on hand to talk through questions and concerns can be helpful. The support lines can help members and their family with questions about their condition, help them understand terminology and what to expect from treatment, and offer emotional support.

Male and female health

Equipsme offer a range of support for male and female health. That includes a discount off the cost of a PSA prostate test or male and female hormone tests through Thriva, access to a specialist Menopause pathway from AXA Health, midwives on the nurse support service, as well as fast-track Pathways for prostate and breast cancers.

As a starting point, all members are able to access the Health Hero private GP service, which allows them to speak to a male or female GP for advice and guidance.

Elder care support

1 in 7 people in the workplace are thought to be juggling caring responsibilities, which is why Equipsme has teamed up with Taking Care to offer members discounts on their elder care support services.

That includes things like personal alarms, 24/7 emergency response services, free practical information and expert advice.
