Why family health matters
When family members get ill or injured, people may need time off to care for them. With the NHS under increasing pressure, it’s more important than ever for people to be able to access timely health support for their family as well as themselves.
What your people need to know about adding family members:
- Employees can add and remove family members from their cover during the plan year, from their Equipsme portal or App. Adding or remove an upgrade can only take place at the renewal date.
- There’s no lengthy medical questionnaires on application, it’s the same terms and conditions that apply to everyone on the plan - such as the exclusion of 3 year pre-existing conditions or chronic/long-term conditions.
- People can add one spouse/partner, and up to 6 children under the age of 25.
- Family members get the same cover that the employee gets, or has chosen, (subject to certain benefit limitations for children)
- Partners will cost the same as the employee plan costs, and adding children costs half. What’s more – it’s half for all children they add to the plan, not per child.
That means that for a Diagnosis and Treatment plan, it would cost £42 for their partner, and £21 for the first child. All other children would be FREE. So a family can be covered for £63 a month – about the cost of a take-away for four people.
- If your company has added our stress support line, children under 16 won’t be able to use it (even if you’ve added them to your plan).
- If your company has added dental and optical cover the pot extends with each family member – so the whole family gets their own allowance of £200 per person per plan year for dental treatment, and £100 for optician costs (plus £25 for eye tests).
