How Equipsme works: How to add family

Equipsme plans are designed to offer practical, everyday health and wellbeing support – for you AND your family.

Here’s how to add family to your Equipsme plan.

Who can add family to their Equipsme plan?

All employee members can add family to their cover under the company Equipsme plan.

How do I add family members?

  1. Go to your Equipsme portal (via the Equipsme website) and log in.
  2. Click on the Add Family option.
  3. The system will then take you through how to add family members and set up your payments.

Who can I add?

You can add your partner/spouse if you’re married, in a civil partnership, or living together permanently in a similar relationship.

You can also add up to 6 of your or your partner’s children, who can stay on the plan until the Equipsme plan renewal date following their 25th birthday.

When can I add family members?

You can add and remove family members during the plan year. Once we receive a request to add your partner and/or children (and your Direct Debit is set up), we can add your family from the start of your next cover month.

What benefits do they get?

Your family will get all the benefits you get (subject to certain benefit limitations for children). That includes any upgrade you buy for yourself, and all the benefits your company has bought for you – including add-ons like Dental & Optical services or Stress Support.

  • GP service – your family members can access the GP service. Just click on the GP icon on your portal or App and it will ask if you want an appointment for yourself or someone else.(Remember, virtual GPs can’t do physical tests or scans, but can offer advice, issue prescriptions if medically necessary that you are willing to pay for, and write open referral letters that you can submit as part of a claim to be pre-assessed).
  • Diagnosis and Treatment services – your family can access diagnosis and treatment through AXA Health, for eligible conditions. When you fill in the form to make your claim, you’ll be asked if you’re the patient. Just click ‘No’, and you’ll be given the choices of the other names on your plan.(Remember our plans don’t cover chronic illnesses, pregnancy and fertility care, cancer treatment, psychological conditions OR pre-existing conditions from the 3 years before cover started).
  • Health support line – nurses, pharmacists, midwives and counsellors can help with many family health enquiries.
  • Heart health and cancer support lines – available to support all family members (certain age restrictions may apply to children).
  • Physiotherapy – can be accessed by all family members over the age of 16, as long as it is a NEW injury or strain, and not pre-existing (symptoms of, medication/advice for, or treatment for in the 3 years before they joined your plan).
  • Gym discounts – the same 40% off gym discounts extend to EVERY person on your plan (subject to gym membership age requirements).
  • Vision Express discount – the same free eye test and money off glasses/contacts can be accessed by every person on your plan.
  • Stress supportif your company has bought stress support, anyone over the age of 16 on your plan can use the service.
  • Dental & Optical – if your company has brought you Dental & Optical cover, it will extend to your family. Each person on your plan will get exactly the same amount of cover as you do – at no extra cost. That’s £200 per person per plan year for dental treatment, and £100 for optician costs (plus £25 for eye tests).

How much does it cost to add family?

Adding your partner costs the same as your own plan costs, and adding your children costs half. What’s more – it’s half the cost for ALL children you add to your plan, not per child.

Our most popular plan includes diagnosis and treatment and is currently £42 a month.

In the case of the £42 plan, you would pay £42 for your partner, and £21 for your first child - subsequent children (up to 5 more) are FREE. So, the cost to add ‘family’ cover to your company bought plan in this example would be just £63 a month.

That’s about the price of a take-away meal for four people.

How do I pay?

When you choose to upgrade or add family, we help you organise a direct debit from your own bank account via your Equipsme online portal, and your collections will be made on the same day of the month that your employer pays.

What happens to my cover/my family cover if I leave my employer, or if my employer stops paying for Equipsme?

If you’re not an Equipsme member anymore, for whatever reason, cover ends for you and any family members if included. We’ll let you know when your last cover day is.

How else does Equipsme support family health?

Your Equipsme plan is also here for you if you’re also looking after older relatives.

Our plans come with built-in elder care discounts, from Which recommended organisation Taking Care. They provide things like wearable alarms, connected to a 24/7 emergency response team. Members can get £40 off the set-up costs, a 30-day money back guarantee and 3 months free if they pay annually by Direct Debit.
