A&C Aggregates, based in South West Wales, supplies aggregates, concrete and asphalt for construction, civil works, landscaping and decoration. It also encompasses other businesses, and in recent years has branched out to incorporate leisure, traffic management and construction services.
A&C’s HR Manager explains: “The business has grown very quickly, over the last few years, and we felt our benefits package needed to grow with us.

“I was already familiar with Equipsme from a previous job, and when we went to look at the market for health benefits it still stood out as something that gave a lot of value for a price that was still very cost effective.
“We went for the Diagnosis plan, so people get the GP service, physio sessions, and access to private specialists for diagnosis services. It was really important for us to include that, because we know the NHS waiting lists in our area can be extremely long.
“The really good thing is that with Equipsme, people can then pay in themselves to upgrade if they want to, and add on family members, too. What’s more, that can all be done without any extra admin for the company - which particularly appealed to me. As a one-person HR, how straightforward Equipsme is to set up and manage was another thing that made it stand out.
“In the long term, we think investing in health support and early diagnosis in particular will have an impact on things like sickness absences and recovery times. But for A&C it’s been more about taking care of our people because we think it’s the right thing to do to look after them and keep them happy and well.
Information sessions
“When you explain it to people, they think Equipsme is absolutely brilliant. Most of them have never had private medical insurance before, so it’s been really important to make sure we spread the word properly so people know what they’ve got. We’re just coming up to a renewal, and Equipsme will be doing information sessions for our team, including early morning sessions for the drivers at 7am before they get on the road.
“The support we’ve received from Equipsme has been very good all the way through. I can’t fault it. Any queries I’ve had they’ve come back very quickly and been very helpful. And it’s definitely doing the job we wanted it do.
“I’ve got family members in A&C who’ve used their Equipsme plan when they’ve struggled to get to the NHS doctor, and they’ve got the attention and reassurance they needed. That’s what it’s all about, at the end of the day. Personally, I think it’s invaluable, because you just never know when you’re going to need it, or what’s going to happen round the corner.”
