There are different test choices or discounts at different levels, and PSA is a new option for members on Diagnosis and Treatment - Level 2 cover.
Members on other levels can purchase a PSA test using their discount code.
The test measures the level of Prostate Specific Antigen in someone’s blood, and can help identify men who may need further investigation for prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer 1 for men in the UK, with 1 in 8 getting it at some point in their lives. Those over 50, black men, and those with a family history of prostate cancer are more at risk – and probably make up a proportion of your workforce.
Symptoms can impact people at work in terms of urgency and rushing to the loo, needing more breaks, and being tired because they have to get up a lot in the night.
If middle aged men are part of your workforce, make sure they know about the PSA test available to them – and encourage them to find out more about their health check benefit.
It can help give people peace of mind, and potentially help catch serious issues earlier – when treatment can be less invasive and more successful. To put that in perspective, caught at Stage 1, nearly 100% 2 of people with prostate cancer survive 5 years or more after diagnosis. Caught at Stage 4, that figure drops to 50%.
